A pair of tradies launched into action to tackle an alleged thief who tried to flee with a mobile phone from a Coles supermarket in Melbourne

The chaos erupted at the store in Spencer St, near the Southern Cross Station this week.

The pair of men wearing hi-vis vests were seen stopping a man who allegedly had stolen a phone from the store. 

The pair held the crook on the ground until protective services officers arrived.

'Just watched these 2 heroes in orange tackle a dude trying to steal mobile phones from Coles at Southern Cross,' a witness shared on Reddit. 

Social media users were full of praise of the quick-thinking heroes. 

'The boys from downer taking down the thieves,' one person said.

'Very few people have the courage to step in and stop a criminal in action. These men are heroes,' another said.

'Tradies are the best,' said another.

Coles did not wish to comment when approached by Daily Mail Australia.
