AGRA: Distressed with the way he was removed from his job without given any prior notice, a former attendant of the
Institute of Mental Health climbed atop a 75 feet tall
mobile tower in the district collectorate premises on Tuesday morning and threatened to commit suicide.
Subhash Babu (35) is among the 13 other contractual employees who were laid off by the hospital management after their contract ended in January this year.
Soon, police officials were called in and joined the administration officials to persuade Babu. After eight hours, the 35-year-old decided to come down after he was assured of being reinstated at the job and re-payment of Rs 13,000 outstanding salary.
Talking to TOI, city magistrate Prabhakant Awasthi said, “Babu was safely brought down. His demand was found genuine. The owner of the outsourcing firm was called and told to pay the outstanding salary of Babu. All the 14 employees will be re-appointed. They will be paid as per the norms of the state government”.
According to the police, Babu was employed at hospital seven years ago as an attendant. His service, along with 13 others, was ended without any notice in January. Since then, he was running from pillar to post for payment of outstanding dues and reappointment.
