RMC launches professional tax interest waiver scheme

Rajkot: Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) announced interest waiver scheme for professional tax from Wednesday. The scheme will remain in force till August 31.
The civic body said that interest and penalty on outstanding tax will be waived off for traders and industrialist if they pay the dues by August 31. According to RMC the total outstanding professional tax for Rajkot was Rs 89 crore.
There were many industrialists and traders who have not registered for professional tax and received notice directing them to pay the dues with 18% interest.
The state government had recently declared the interest waiver scheme.
RMC officials said that those not having professional tax enrolment number will be allotted numbers after they pay the outstanding amount and apply for the number. They won’t be penalized for not applying for the professional tax number.
“Those professionals who have taken the enrolment number but not paid the tax since last few years are also eligible to take the benefit of interest waiver scheme,” RMC said in a statement.
