NAVI MUMBAI: Newly appointed Navi Mumbai civic commissioner, A B Misal, held a meeting with senior and middle-rung employees to discuss the Swachhata Survekshan 2020 contest.
Navi Mumbai has performed well in the country-wide cleanliness contest in the recent past and won awards in various themes.
In this regard, Misal told his subordinates that work must begin at the earliest, specially in slums and gaothan areas so that all the wards are completely covered.
Additional municipal commissioner, Mahavir Pendhari and deputy municipal commissioner (solid waste) Tushar Pawar were also present in the meeting held at the civic headquarters.
Civic public relations officer said, “At this meeting, it was also pointed out that the city must get ‘double plus’ rating for open defecation free (ODF) so that no negative marking is given during Swachhata Sarvekshan.”
Misal urged his staff to ensure that all public toilets properly function in their respective wards.
At the time of taking charge as the
civic chief, Misal had told TOI that he wanted Navi Mumbai to continue being the topmost city in the country with regards to cleanliness.
Citizens and activists have welcomed this move. “It is good that the new commissioner is taking keen interest in the city’s cleanliness. However, I will also urge the civic body not to ignore various encroachments in the form of illegal advertising hoardings and otherwise,” said a city-based activist.
