CM slams campaign against PSC

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has come down heavily against the campaign “to sabotage the functioning of the state public service commission (PSC)”. The attempt is to create confusion among job aspirants, who have full faith in the commission, he said.
The allegation was that two of the University College students got high ranks in the rank list prepared by the PSC. At first, it was blamed that they wrote the examination at the University College itself, which later turned out to be a blatant lie, said the chief minister.
“However, the campaign against the PSC is still going on, which is with political motives. No one should forget the fact that the PSC in the state is a role model for the entire country. Nowhere in the country, such an efficient service is being rendered by a public service commission. Whether it be the conduct of the examination, preparing of the question paper or placements, the PSC is doing an exemplary work,’’ said Vijayan.
“The government would not allow any attempt to tarnish the image of the commission for the sake of political reasons. This campaign will only help in creating confusion and fear among those who are in the several rank lists of the PSC. After the LDF government came to power, 1,11,000 appointments have been made by the PSC. Apart from this 22,000 posts were created in various departments. From the last grade post to the deputy collector post, the appointments are made through the PSC,” he said.
“Even though the negative campaign is being made against the PSC, their target is the government. That was why several blatant lies are being propagated. There is no need for any kind of inquiry against the PSC since all the allegations are baseless. An inquiry can be done only if there is any seriousness in the allegation,” said the chief minister.
“Similar is the campaign against the University College. An incident, which should not have happened in any campus, occurred at the college campus. All necessary and possible steps have been taken by the government after the incident,” he said.

“When such an incident happens, there should be steps to rectify it and prevent similar incidents from happening again. All these have been done. But those, who are still in the campaign against the college, have the intentions to shut down this prestigious institution, which is not going to happen,” said Vijayan.
The government had made it clear that those involved in the violence inside the college would not be spared. Action had been taken against them and the investigation was on. The government was of the view that all organisations should have the freedom to work in all campuses, said the chief minister.
