LIFE Mission projects progressing fast in Kasaragod

As many as 6,242 beneficiary families in the district will see that their long-standing dreams of own homes will be realised under the LIFE (Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment) Mission of the State government being implemented here in three stages.

While the first phase started in November 2017 stressed completion of houses of beneficiaries granted funds under various schemes, the second phase started in March 2018 focused on construction of homes of those having land. In the third phase, houses would be constructed for landless beneficiaries. The houses of 2,825 of the total 2,935 beneficiary families in the first phase had been completed and the remaining would be completed by August, said officials in a press release here on Wednesday.

While 3,676 families had been found eligible to get financial assistance under the second phase of the scheme, 3,307 beneficiaries submitted the agreement mandatory for being included in the scheme. The construction of 1,084 houses under this phase had already been completed and the construction of 2,223 houses was in progress, they said.

While the beneficiary families were being granted up to ₹4 lakh each, those living in tribal colonies in remote areas would be sanctioned ₹6 lakh each. The houses being constructed under the LIFE Mission will have a floor area of 400 sq ft each.

The beneficiaries to be included in the third phase would be finalised soon after a scrutiny of 10,758 applicants. Eight-storey apartment complexes were planned under the third phase, the officials said.
