NEW DELHI: Two Afghan nationals were caught by the Special Cell of
Delhi Police with a consignment of liquid
heroin that was packed in cardboard boxes filled with raisins from Afghanistan and on their way to sellers in Delhi. Cops found 50kg of heroin worth Rs 200 crore packed in 102 cartons lying in a cold storage. The men are alleged to be a part of the same cartel from the Afghanistan-Pakistan region controlled by a
Taliban leader and a Pakistani that was busted last week.
While interrogating the two men arrested last week, the cops learnt that a large consignment of unprocessed heroin was on its way to Delhi. Two Afghan nationals, Mohammad Akbar and Neda Mohammad, were to collect it. A police team led by ACPs Lalit Mohan Negi and Hriday Bhushan put the cold storage under vigil and were able to seize the contraband concealed in poly pouches.
The cartons in which the drugs were hidden were among the 600 others that Akbar and Mohammad disclosed had been packed with raisins in Kandahar and transported through the Wagah-Attari border in trucks. The cartons were packed by Akbar’s company, called Mohammad Akbar Afghani Limited, and were imported into India by a Delhi firm.
The cops discovered that the packers carefully sliced open the wall of a cardboard box and inserted a pouch of heroin between the two parts before sealing them and filling the carton to the brim with raisins. These were specially marked and delivered to Akbar and Mohammed.
The two men extracted the heroin pouches and send them to Jamia Nagar, where they were processed using a distillation technique that left pure heroin as the residue. The powder was packed into small pouches and supplied to peddlers in Delhi and NCR. Police are still pursuing the UP-based man who had been running the operation and had rented the room in Jamia Nagar.
Akbar told the cops that he had floated a private company for packing the heroin. Once the crates were dispatched on trucks, he and Neda flew to India and reached the cold storage in time to retrieve the marked boxes. The pair transported the drug to Jamia Nagar in a luxury car.
The two have been in the business for three years. The cops suspect them of having supplied at least 1,000kg of narcotics in this period. They will be questioned on alternative routes for heroin into India.
