PATNA: The Union home ministry has withdrawn the Z category central security cover accorded to jailed RJD chief
Lalu Prasad, BJP MP Rajeev Pratap Rudy and four others from
Bihar.
The security cover of LJP MP Chirag Paswan and former MP Rajesh Ranjan alias
Pappu Yadav has also been downgraded to Y-category from Y-plus category.
Apart from Lalu and Rudy, the four others who lost their central security covers were former Congress MP Umashankar Singh's son and BJP leader Jitendra Swamy, former JD(U) MP Sabir Ali, former BJP MP Uday Singh (now in Congress) and sitting LJP MP Veena Devi.
While Lalu and Rudy both had Z-category security, Jitendra and Sabir were accorded Y-plus cover and Uday and Veena had X-category security cover.
In December 2017, Lalu's security cover was downgraded by the MHA to Z-category from Z-Plus, which is the top central security cover. However, he remains a Z-Plus category VIP protectee as accorded by the state government.
The changes were made by the MHA after assessing the threat perception of all these people along with several others across country following which a fresh notification was issued on Monday. All these VIPs used to get security cover from highly trained CRPF commandos.
A senior home department official preferring anonymity, said now Bihar has only eight VIPs, who are accorded with different categories of central security cover.
