Bok boost for WP ahead of Lions duel

2019-07-23 13:43

Cape Town - Western Province have been boosted by the return of Springboks Siya Kolisi and Dillyn Leyds for their Currie Cup clash against the Golden Lions at Newlands on Saturday.

Segeal Petersen, a former Springbok squad member, is also back from injury.

While Leyds and Petersen are raring to go, Springbok captain Kolisi is unlikely to take any part as he is still recovering from a knee injury picked up at the end of the Super Rugby season.

Kolisi is expected to make his return only in three weeks' time as WP have a bye after this weekend.

The team's assistant coach confirmed that the Bok trio were back in training.

"Siya, Dillyn Leyds and Sergeal Petersen all trained with us today‚" Snyman said on Monday.

"Siya looks good and he brought a lot of energy to the camp but we will wait and see if he plays against the Lions or not.

"Either way‚ it's great to have his energy around the camp. He will give input in other ways‚ from analysis to boosting the team and if he doesn’t play on Saturday he will carry water and supply support in that way.

"We are still waiting to hear from the Springbok medical staff what their exact plan with him over the coming weeks will be. We have a bye after this game."

WP will be looking to get their Currie Cup campaign back on track against the Lions this weekend after succumbing to defeat against the Sharks last weekend, following their opening-round victory over the Blue Bulls.

Saturday's clash is scheduled for 17:15.
