‘We had agreed to defer the decision’

A day after the annual general body meeting of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, claims and counter-claims on a representative being nominated for BCCI meetings continued with former India captain Mohd. Azharuddin, former association president Arshad Ayub and secretary T. Seshnarayan asserting that no such decision was taken on Sunday.

“We strongly condemn the reported statement of in-charge president Anil Kumar, who said former HCA president G. Vivekanand has been unanimously named as nominee for the BCCI meetings,” Mr. Azharuddin said on Monday.

“How can a disqualified person be eligible to be considered? We all agreed at the meeting that the issue be deferred till election process is completed in the first week of September. A duly elected body can take care of this subject later on,” he said.

“It is disgusting that all rules and regulations are being flouted by the Apex Council of HCA and we sincerely hope that early elections will be held and a duly elected body will clean up all the mess,” Mr. Azharuddin added.

Mr. Ayub and Mr. Seshnarayan also strongly denied Mr. Anil Kumar’s version. “He has no locus standi in this regard. It is strange that when the meeting concluded, there was no final decision taken about it except that it has been deferred,” they said.

“When the issue was discussed and a decision deferred, Mr. Anil Kumar left the dais without taking up the remaining items on the agenda,” Mr. Ayub said.

Later in the evening, Mr. Anil Kumar said that on the advice of the Committee of Administrators of HCA, appointed by the High Court, and as per the by-laws of the HCA and Justice Lodha panel guidelines, he chaired the meeting of the 84th annual general body meeting.

“In this, all important resolutions including naming the HCA representative to BCCI meetings, appointment of Cricket Advisory Committee and the junior selection panel were made. Though these were done properly as per the constitution, it is very unfortunate that some members have gone to the press with wrong remarks and bringing a bad name to the association,” he maintained.
