PATNA: Two people were killed in separate incidents in Hajipur and Arwal districts within the last 24 hours.
A 38-year-old property dealer, Sujit Kumar Sharma, was allegedly shot by an armed assailant at Hastarganj under the town police station area in Hajipur on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The incident took place when the victim was fast asleep in his house.
According to town police station SHO Anjani Kumar Singh, the miscreant allegedly entered the victim’s house from the backyard around 12.30am and went straight to his bedroom on the first floor.
“He shot Sharma once and fled from the spot. Hearing the gunshot, his wife Laxmi Devi raised an alarm and other members of the family gathered at the murder spot,” Singh told this newspaper on Monday.
Sharma was taken to the Hajipur sadar hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body was handed over to family members after postmortem.
Brother of the deceased, Ashish Sharma, has lodged an FIR against one Sharat Jeet, who is also a native of Hastarganj.
“It appears to be a case of land dispute. We are conducting raids to arrest the accused,” Singh said.
Meanwhile, an elderly man, identified as Ram Pravesh Sah (58), was allegedly killed after a tiff with a truck driver in Dhorha village under the Rampur Chaurabh police station area in Arwal on Monday morning.
Police arrested the accused, Satyendra Singh, who also hails from the same village.
According to police sources, Sah had a tiff with Singh for driving his truck near the former’s house. Singh beat him up and escaped. Later, Sah succumbed to his injuries at the sadar hospital.
