World Aquatics Championships: Jessica Macaulay wins high diving bronze

Britain's Jessica Macaulay won high diving bronze at her World Aquatics Championships debut in South Korea.

Macaulay, 26, who is also a cliff diver, impressed with her four dives from the 20m platform, finishing on 295.30 points in Gwangju.

Just three points separated the top three athletes as Australia's Rhiannan Iffland won gold and Mexico's Adriana Jimenez took silver.

"I keep trying new things and this effort paid off today," she said.

"From nine to 21 years old I was doing traditional diving. Then, in 2014, I tried high diving - the scariest thing I've done in life. But I continued and I progressively gained confidence and started to compete in 2017.

"We are definitively a group of brave and powerful girls doing something that others cannot do. High diving enables people to overcome their fear."

Meanwhile, Adam Peaty reached the 50m breaststroke semi-finals after swimming the fastest time in Tuesday's heats.

The Briton won 100m breaststroke gold on Monday and is the defending champion over the shorter distance.

American defending champion Katie Ledecky, 22, has pulled out of the women's 1500m freestyle final and the 200m freestyle heats on "medical grounds".

Five-time Olympic champion Ledecky, who came second behind Australia's Ariarne Titmus in the 400m freestyle final, could still defend her 800m freestyle title at the weekend.
