He said he suffered severe depression and anxiety and even contemplated suicide.

'The depression got as bad...it's hard to share. I basically thought about every single day about ending my life, I thought about committing suicide.'

Sainsbury was sentenced to six years in El Buen Pastor, Bogota's biggest female jail in Colombia.

During the first few months of her sentence pair stayed strong and even claimed they would have a 'lavish' prison wedding but quietly broke up February last year.

Mr Broadbridge said he became afraid to leave his home because he didn't want to be hounded with questions over his ex-partner.

The fitness model said his self-esteem took a hit and he began to doubt himself.

He said he thought future employers were going to judge him and was told he would never get a job again.

'I went from being the most confident person to somebody who was very isolated.'

However, he has managed to turn his life around.

He said he has since overcome his mental health issues and is now 'in the best mental state of my life'.

The change comes as Sainsbury's possible release date edges closer.

He added he would happily support Ms Sainsbury's parole and hire her if she is granted early release.

Ms Sainsbury - who became known as 'Cocaine Cassie' - recently hinted she has taken a same-sex lover while behind bars.

Speaking from her Colombian prison cell, Ms Sainsbury told New Idea magazine in April her romance was 'something that's just starting' but wouldn't confirm or deny if the relationship she was involved in was with a woman.
