PUNE: A man barged into an unlocked flat in an apartment at Patilnagar in Bavdhan and robbed gold ornaments worth Rs2.77 lakh of a 48-year-old woman, alone at home.
Her nephew and other relatives were in different flats in the same apartment during the robbery but none of them got to know about the incident. The woman, Chandrabhaga Uttam Dagade, could not raise an alarm because the robber held her mouth tightly with one of his hands. He also pinned her against the wall and threatened to kill her.
The robber later pushed Chandrabhaga into the bathroom and fled with her ornaments, worth Rs2.77 lakh. After 15 minutes, she came out and alerted her nephew, Sachin Dagade. She lodged an FIR with the Hinjewadi police at night.
Sachin told TOI that he and his relatives, including Chandrabhaga, stayed in eight flats of Dagade Patil Villa at Dagade Patilnagar in Bavdhan-Budruk. “My aunt stays on the first floor. On Sunday evening, she was alone as my uncle had gone out for some work,” he said.
According to Sachin, his another uncle, staying on the same floor, was sleeping. “I was also in my flat on the ground floor,” he said.
Sachin said his aunt had kept the door of her flat open as painting work was going on in the apartment. “Around 3.30pm, an unidentified man suddenly entered her flat. Before she could ask him anything, he silenced her putting his hand on her mouth and pushed her along the wall,” he said.
He said the man threatened her that he would kill her if she tried to raise an alarm. “He then forced my aunt to remove all her gold ornaments, including chain and bangles. He also removed her silver toe rings,” Sachin said.
The suspect then pushed Chandrabhaga inside the bathroom and closed the door. “My aunt was so frightened that she sat inside for 15 minutes. After she felt the suspect had fled, she came out and called me from her cellphone,” Sachin said, adding that he immediately ran to his aunt’s first floor flat.

An officer from the Hinjewadi police said Chandrabhaga had given the description of the suspect. He was wearing a blue T-shirt and a track pant. His face was covered. “He spoke in Marathi,” the officer said.
The police have registered an offence under sections 392 (robbery), 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurting) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal code.
