Liverpool look set to miss out on a third summer transfer target as reports state Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal to sign Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham.

The Reds have long been linked with a move for the young full-back, however, reports emerged stating that Sessegnon was close to completing his move to last season’s runners-up in the Champions League.

Spurs are expected to spend £20m plus add-ons to secure Sessegnon’s signature, who has also been linked with Liverpool in the past.

It had been suggested that Liverpool were ready to step up their pursuit of Sessegnon, the Reds having regularly scouted the defender over the past campaign.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was keen to beat off competition from a host of Premier League clubs to secure his signature and felt that the former England under-19 international would be the ideal new recruit to compete with vice-captain James Milner for the full-back spot.
