Vadodara: Chants of ‘Hindustan zindabad’ and ‘Bharat Maata ki jai’ reverberated through the corridors of Harni airport when the mortal remains of martyred Army man Arif Pathan reached the city on Tuesday evening.
Pathan was killed in shelling by Pakistani army at Sunderbani sector of Jammu & Kashmir on Monday morning.
As the news spread about Pathan’s body having been brought to the city, a large number of citizens headed for the airport to pay their last respects and offer condolences to his family. Police had thrown a tight ring of security around the airport.
Pathan’s body was flown to the city in a private airline. Wreaths were placed on the coffin of the martyr and Indian Army accorded a Guard of Honour for the brave soldier. The ceremony was organized by army station commander, Vadodara. The martyr’s family members came to the airport and received the body. A large crowd in Fatehgunj area also paid tributes to Pathan’s mortal remains.
Pathan’s cousin brother Imran said his body will be kept at SSG Hospital on Tuesday night. “On Wednesday, the body will be brought to his house in Navayard at 9am. At 1pm, Pathan’s body will be taken for burial at D Cabin graveyard in Navayard,” he said.
