Bills, bills, bills: Nik Rabinowitz talks money

In this tough economy, even celebrities aren’t immune to the struggles of bean-counting. For savings month, comedian Nik Rabinowitz gave this usually humourless condition a fun injection and shared his tips for saving.

The best saving advice I've ever received is a classic, we've all received it at one point in our childhoods: "Don't spend it all in one place." Whoever came up with that one was the world's first true financial advisor.

Do you have financial New Year resolutions and do you stick to them?

Yes, it's always the same - make MUCH more money than I did last year. As with most New Year resolutions, I've usually already failed by the end of January.

What is your worst money habit?

Electricity and water... Can't stop. Won't stop.

Are you saving for anything specific at the moment?

Yes, I have a dream of taking a year off, getting a van, taking the family to an exotic location and leaving them there so I can travel for a year on my own.

What is the one outlandish purchase you regret?

I once bought a VERY expensive designer scarf by mistake. I missed an additional zero on the end of the price tag.

If you’re on a tight budget, what is the one thing you always splurge on?

SARS. Can't help myself. OK, I don't have a choice...
