Bryan Hughes believes new signing Jazzi Barnum-Bobb ‘fits the bill’ perfectly for what he was looking for in a right-back after unveiling the defender as his sixth new signing of the summer.
Barnum-Bobb has been training with the Dragons since their first day back in for pre-season last month, and has impressed Hughes sufficiently during that trial period to earn a one-year deal.
It took some time to finalise the paperwork but Barnum-Bobb was unveiled as a new Wrexham player on Monday, much to the delight of Hughes.
“It has been ongoing for a little while, there was a bit of paperwork to be done between other clubs, but he will be part of our squad for this season, so I am really delighted” said Hughes.
“Jazzi has impressed me, but not just me, I think he has impressed everyone in the group and the coaching team. He has got good work ethics, he is a good player, both defensively and attack minded.
“I think he will fit into what we are trying to achieve this season, he will come in and challenge for that full-back spot and I am delighted that he is on board.”
Right-back was the final position which potentially still needed filling after Hughes opted to allow Kevin Roberts to depart when unveiling his retained list in early May.
The manager had brought in forwards JJ Hooper, Devonte Redmond, Leighton McIntosh and Mark Harris (the latter on a season long loan from Cardiff City) to give him more options in attack, as well as defensive midfielder Adam Barton.

And Hughes feels he has brought in exactly the right player to fill the position, adding: “It was a specific type of right-back I was after, I wanted someone who was athletic, and could defend as well as attack and Jazzi fits that bill.
“There were a couple of others who got my attention, who interested me, but Jazzi, once he came in and you get to know the character and get to see him on the training ground and then in games more importantly, he fitted the bill.”
After keeping together the core of last season’s squad that were eliminated at the first stage of the play-offs, Hughes has added six new faces over the course of the summer.
But with less than two weeks remaining before the start of the new season - the Dragons kick off their National League campaign with the visit of Barrow on Saturday, August 3 - the manager has not ruled out adding yet more new recruits.
“Maybe,” he replied when quizzed on whether there might be more new faces. “I am happy with the squad if I am being honest, I think we’ve recruited well.
“We’ve filled good areas of the pitch where we needed to improve, and I am happy with it. You never say never, so there might be more things happening, but at the moment I am okay with it.”
