JAIPUR: The 59-year-old jeweller who was battling for his life after being hit by a speeding car at JDA Circle on Friday, succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Sunday evening. Incidentally, another victim of the July 16
accident at the exact same location, 21-year-old Sunita Devi, in which two brothers died on the spot, also succumbed to her injuries at 4:30 pm on Sunday.
SMS Hospital superintendent Dr D S Meena confirmed to TOI that Abhay Chand Daga died at 6.30pm in the hospital where he was admitted on Friday morning following a fatal accident. Daga is now the fourth person to have died within a week in two separate accidents at the ill-fated JDA Circle. Last Tuesday, a speeding car had killed two brothers Vivek and Punit Parashar exactly at the same spot.
‘We hoped that he would survive’Daga was travelling from Mahaveer Nagar to Johri Bazar when an Audi car speeding at 120km per hour rammed into his scooter at JDA Circle at 6.20am on Friday.
Daga was tossed about 10-feet high in the air. The massive hit took the car over the diver and flung it on the opposite side. After the accident, the accused driver Siddharth Sharma took Daga to the hospital in an auto rickshaw.
“We had kept our hopes alive that he would somehow survive this mishap, but in vain,” said his niece Asha Daga. He is survived by his wife, a young daughter and a son.
“He ran his own jewellery business from Mahaveer Nagar, but regularly visited our ancestral home at Johri Bazar. None of us could imagine that a responsible driver like my brother, who followed all traffic rules would meet such a fate,” said his brother Hukum Chand Daga.
The accident area police station (east) which has been investigating the case had booked the accused under Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide). Sharma had reportedly spent the night partying with his friends in a club near C-Scheme. At 6.21am he was heading towards Raja Park to drop his friend there.
