IMFL worth Rs 32 lakh seized; five held

Rajkot: A total of 8,912 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 288 cans of beer, all worth Rs 32.58 lakh, were seized during two different raids in Jamnagar and Surendranagar districts since Sunday evening.

In Jamnagar, police seized 5,555 IMFL bottles and 288 cans of beer, worth Rs 22.22 lakh, from a truck on Jamnagar bypass road and arrested the driver Suresh Kadiyana, Jyotindra Pathak, who was piloting the truck in an SUV, Tarachand Jat, Dalbir Jat and Sanjiv Nai.

“We have recovered Rs one lakh cash, nine cellphones, the truck and the SUV from the accused who said they had brought the liquor from Ambala in Haryana. One Gopal Ranbir had uploaded the consignment on to the truck which was meant to be delivered to Kishor Gadhvi, a bootlegger in Jamjodhpur,” said Rohit Dodiya, inspector with Jamnagar local crime branch.
In the another raid at Bhanejada village of Chuda taluka in Surendranagar district he police seized 3,357 IMFL bottles worth Rs 10.36 lakh from a government wasteland. “When we raided the spot, four bootleggers who were busy dividing the share of IMFL bottles, fled from the spot. Our investigation revealed that the consignment had belonged to a local bootlegger, identified as Pravin Bhabhala,” said D M Dhol, inspector with Surendranagar local crime branch.
