Alert train ticket inspector prevents derailment

Coimbatore: A major train derailment was avoided after an alert travelling ticket inspector noticed a fracture in an adjacent railway line and alerted the Coimbatore Junction authorities and control office.

The inspector, Gurusamy R, was travelling on the popular Chennai-Coimbatore Cheran Express when he noticed a rail cut in an adjacent line in a spot close to the Coimbatore Junction. The next few trains travelling on the line were then made to slow down till the fracture was rectified. On June 22, Gurusamy, who was doing his duty in the Cheran Express, detected a rail cut in an adjacent railway line when there was a loud noise when the train ran over it. Immediately, he alerted the Coimbatore junction station authorities and control office.
“Once they received the information, the authorities sent a section engineer to the spot immediately. The engineers confirmed the rail cut and imposed a cautionary speed of 30 kmph on all the next trains that had to travel through that line, till it was restored,” a press release stated. On Monday, additional divisional railway manager Annadurai A appreciated Gurusamy for his prompt behaviour and presented him a cash award. TNN
