It has been a long time coming for Jazzi Barnum-Bobb after becoming Wrexham’s sixth new signing of the summer, and the defender is desperate to repay the faith shown by Dragons boss Bryan Hughes.

Barnum-Bobb has been on trial at Wrexham since the Dragons return for pre-season last month, the 23-year-old training with Hughes’ squad as he looked to secure a contract.

The right sided defender has impressed in trial matches against Cefn Druids, Fleetwood and AFC Telford United, with Hughes speaking highly of the former Cardiff City and Newport County player throughout the summer.

Barnum-Bobb joined Chelmsford City in March 2018 after being released by Newport, and helped the Clarets to a fourth placed finish in the National League South last season - the Melbourne Stadium outfit losing to Welling United in the play-off semi-finals.

But Barnum-Bobb is relishing the move to Wrexham, saying: “It has been a long time coming, but I am delighted for it to be done and the paper work is done and I am just looking forward to getting started.

“As a player you come in and play your football, the last thing you want to think about is the paper work and all that stuff.

“It has been nice to come in and the gaffer has played me in the games as a trialist and luckily I have done well. He has put faith in me and offered me a deal, and now I want to get started.

“I’ve had good chats with the gaffer and I’ve listened to what he has said. When you are a trialist you always get speculation off fans, but I have just come in and had some good chats with the gaffer, he has been positive with me so I am looking forward to playing under him this season.”

Having been with Wrexham since their first day of pre-season, Barnum-Bobb feels he will be ready to hit the ground running come the opening day of the season as the Dragons entertain Barrow on Saturday, August 3.

But the defender also acknowledges the gamble that players face by spending so long on trial at a club.

He added: “I said to some of the boys the other day it has been a while since I have done it (gone on trial). But a chance came to trial at a big club like Wrexham and one I was willing to take.

“It can go the other way, you can do really well and not get rewarded, so I am just grateful that the gaffer has given me the chance and rewarded me for dong well on this trial.

“It has been perfect really because I came in on day one and I don’t feel like I am playing catch up. I’ve had time to get to know the lads and get to know how the gaffer wants to play and although I’ve been on trial for it (pre-season) I have still had a full pre-season.

“It (the start of the new season) is almost here, just under two weeks to the start of the season and I feel like I am ready to go, as are all the other boys.

“As a player you want to be playing in the Football League, you want to be playing at the highest level possible and this is a club that should be in the League.”
