Prince Charles and Camilla will appear at the 100th annual Royal Welsh Show today.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will appear at the show in Builth Wells this morning.

During today's visit the royal couple will open a new garden, tour the cattle rings and unveil the showground's new equine arena.

They will also be invited to watch a mock re-enactment of the battle of Rorke's drift, immortalised in the film 1964 Zulu, starring Michael Caine and Stanley Baker, when 150 British soldiers held off 4,000 warrior tribesmen.

The stunt was organised because Charles and Camilla are due to meet King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and Queen Pumi, head of the Zulu nation.

More than 200,000 people are expected to flock to the show over the next three days.

Our farming editor Andrew Forgrave is at the show, and will be providing updates as the royal couple arrive at the showground.

More from our rural affair editor

Here is some more detail about what is happening.

Following a traditional reception by Royal Welsh dignitaries, Charles and Camilla were greeted by the Impi warriors with a flourish of shields and clubs – the spears are purely ceremonial.

Arrayed opposite them were members of Rhayader & Dictrict Male Voice Choir and the Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh.

They responded with a hearty rendition of Men of Harlech, echoing scenes from the 1964 film Zulu, which depicted 150 British soldiers holding off 4,000 warrior tribesmen at Rorke’s Drift.

On this occasion honours were even as the crowds appreciated the efforts of both sets of mock adversaries.

After meeting Impi warrior leaders, and posing for photos with them, the Royal couple officially opened a new garden outside the International Pavilion.

The garden was created to mark the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles’ investiture.

A reminder of what happened this morning

Here is the latest on what has been going on at the show from our rural affairs editor Andrew Forgrave:

Dressed in leopardskin tops and fur skirts, and wielding goat-skin shields, a war party of 35 Zulu warriors cut an incongruous sight at the Royal Welsh showground this lunchtime.

The chanted Impi war songs as Zulu rulers King Goodwill and Queen Pumi prepared to greet Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at Llanelwedd.

Huge crowds gathered to watch the colourful performance, a stark contrast to the show staples of livestock and horses.
