The air ambulance has been called out to a crash on the A499 in Abersoch.

The road has been blocked in both directions as a result of the crash, which happened at around 2pm.

Police have warned that the road will be shut for some time.

They said: "Emergency Services en-route to reports of two vehicle collision near the Warren, Abersoch.

"Road is blocked and will be closed for some time. Please avoid the area."

What we know so far

A woman has been flown to hospital after a serious crash in Gwynedd. Police, firefighters, the Wales Air Ambulance and paramedics were called to the two-vehicle crash on the A499 near the Warren in Abersoch just after 2pm. The road had to be closed while emergency crews dealt with the incident. Firefighters had to help free a casualty from one of the vehicles involved in the collision. A woman was then airlifted to hospital but her condition is not known. Story, here.

Woman airlifted to hospital

The fire service tell me that they had to free one person from one of the cars. The spokeswoman added that a woman was airlifted to hospital and a man was treated for shock.

Road re-opens

We are hearing that the road has now been re-opened.

Motorists urged to avoid the area

We are told that the area around the crash is very busy which is causing delays. Motorists have been asked to avoid the area if at all possible.

Emergency services still at the scene

The ambulance service tell me that they have no update at the moment with emergency crews understood to still be at the scene.

Vehicles awaiting recovery

Police tell me that they are waiting for the vehicles to be recovered with the recovery firm expected on scene in the next half an hour or so.

The road is still closed with emergency services still at the scene. Police have warned the road will be shut for some time due to the collision.

We’ve just had the following statement from the ambulance service:

We were called on Monday 22 July at approximately 14:01 to reports of a road traffic accident involving two vehicles in Abersoch. We responded with one ambulance and a crew of our Community First Responders and we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. The incident is currently ongoing.”
