VietJet Air and VASCO were the two Vietnamese carriers with the most cancelled flights with a total of 110 flights, daily newspaper Vietnam News reported, noting that VASCO’s cancellations were due to weather and technology problems. As for the rate of on-time performance flights, Bamboo Airways took the highest percentage with 93.8 percent, followed by VASCO, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Jetstar Pacific with 93 percent, 89.1 percent, 81.5 percent and 78.1 percent, respectively.
In the first half of this year, Vietnamese airlines transported 18.3 million passengers, increasing 6.2 percent on-year, with budget carrier Vietjet Air holding a market share of 44 percent, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines 35.9 percent, Jetstar Pacific 13.9 percent, Bamboo Airways 4.2 percent and VASCO 2 percent, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
Vietnamese airlines operated 48 different domestic routes connecting 22 airports, of which Vietjet Air ran 35 routes, Vietnam Airlines 33 routes, Bamboo Airways 24 routes, Jetstar Pacific 23 routes and VASCO nine routes.
Meanwhile, 72 foreign airlines ran more than 200 regular international routes and charter flights from over 20 countries and regions to eight airports in Vietnam. These airlines transported 20.2 million passengers between January and June, up 12.5 percent, said the authority.
According to Vietnam’s Transport Ministry, the local aviation market will annually grow 8 percent in the 2020-2030 period with Vietnamese carriers expected to serve 131 million passengers in 2030.
