Airbnb is exploding in popularity. While it is convenient for renters and owners, next door neighbors have serious concerns about its impact on the neighborhood.
Porch, a free home network, surveyed nearly 1,000 people on the concerns they have about having Airbnb renters in their neighborhood. Some of their findings include:
- The top three concerns of people against short term rentals? Nearly 2 in 3 people believe it would disrupt the peace, cause safety issues, and allow unvetted strangers into the neighborhood
- 40% of all respondents believe their home values would decrease if their neighbor turned their home into a short-term rental, while 50% would feel less safe
- Regardless if they approved or disapproved of short-term rentals in their neighborhood, nearly half of respondents were concerned they would cause more noise while a third were concerned about additional traffic.
