PATNA: Three persons were arrested on Monday for alleged gang
rape of a 35-year-old married woman under the Hasanpur police station area in
Samastipur district on July 9. The victim lodged an FIR with Mahila police station on Monday after the accused circulated the video of the incident on social media. She has named six persons. Those arrested were identified as Law Kumar alias Chotu (19) of Mangalgarh and Amit Kumar (28) and Punpun Shah (39) of Deodah.
According to police sources, the incident took place around 12 noon when the victim was going to meet her sister-in-law, who lives in the same block. “Amit and his two associates dragged the woman to an isolated place near a farm where three more persons joined them. She tried to raise an alarm but they gagged the woman with a piece of cloth and raped her,” Mahila police station SHO Nilima said.
Quoting the victim, Nilima said the accused abandoned the woman after committing the crime. “They also asked her not to utter a word about the incident to anyone or she may face dire consequences. Three of the accused have been arrested, but three more were absconding,” the SHO said.
The accused was booked under Sections 376 (rape) and 362 (abduction) of IPC and Section 66E (punishment for violation of privacy) of Information Technology (IT) Act.
The accused were presented before the magistrate and forwarded to jail. The victim was sent to Samastipur Sadar Hospital for medical examination.
