Violent brawl ends Brunswick wedding

A couple's special day has come to a horrible end following a wild brawl at a wedding in Brunswick overnight.

It is unknown whether the group tried to enter the wedding reception uninvited, but video taken by The Age shows fighting both inside and outside the venue.

It also shows a young woman in handcuffs resisting arrest before being loaded into a police van.

At least eight police squad cars and up to 40 police officers, including Public Order Response Team officers, attended the scene and were forced to use capsicum spray to break up the parties after they became aggressive.

A number of bystanders in the immediate vicinity as well as a police officer were affected by secondary spray and provided with aftercare at the scene.

An eyewitness said they saw multiple women being pepper sprayed and one put into the back of a police van.

"It is going off, some kind of event at Almina bar gone crazy. All young girls going mental," he said.

Photographs taken by The Age show a forlorn bride on the street, wrapped in an Ambulance Victoria towel, next to a young boy in formal wear following the fight.

The scene was in stark contrast to a video taken earlier in the night of what is believed to be the same bride and her new husband dancing to traditional drumming inside the reception venue. The video was posted to Almina's Facebook page.

Other images show distraught wedding guests in glittering metallic gowns being escorted from the venue by security.

Some were treated by ambulance workers, including having their eyes flushed with water to remove the spray.

Local photographer Darran Traynor witnessed the chaotic event and said there were people everywhere.

"I live in the area and it's not unusual to hear sirens, but this was something else, so I decided to walk down and have a look," Mr Traynor said.

"There were half a dozen Public Order Response vehicles there and about 30-40 police on the street."

"There were three or four ambulances there, I'm not sure what they were doing, but there was people in them."

Mr Traynor said it looked as though a wedding had come to a terrible end.

"Onlookers told me it was a wedding, there were people all about the place dressed in lavish clothes."

Despite what is shown in the video, police said no arrests were made.

The investigation remains ongoing.
