Cape Town - Former British No 1 Tim Henman believes Roger Federer still has what it takes to win another Grand Slam.

Federer missed an opportunity to win his 21st major last Sunday as he lost a five-set Wimbledon final classic against Novak Djokovic, going down 7-6 (7/5), 1-6, 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 13-12 (7/3) in four hours and 57 minutes.

Djokovic took his Grand Slam tally to 16, which leaves him four behind Federer with the Swiss maestro’s last major coming at the 2018 Australian Open.

When asked by Omnisport during an HSBC event if this year’s Wimbledon final was Federer’s last chance to win a Slam, Henman replied: “I don’t think so. I think it’s very difficult to write these guys off that are playing at such a high level.

“Federer’s not going to be around forever but I think it’s important we all enjoy him while he’s still playing.”

Former British No 1 Henman, though, has backed Djokovic to surpass Federer’s record Grand Slam tally.

“It’s going to be very interesting to watch,” he added.

“He’s five years younger than Federer so he’s got much more time on his side.

“The level of play that Djokovic is at right now, it really wouldn’t surprise me if he did overtake Federer in the future.”
