MIGUEL’S FEASTS
★★★
3pm, SBS Food
Feeling blue? Then try this for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. No one can spend 10 minutes in Miguel Maestre’s company without feeling more cheerful, and this bright, breezy high-energy cooking series can’t help but lift your spirits. This episode’s actually useful, too, as Maestre demonstrates five budget meals for a family of five – and gets everyone involved in the prep and cooking. He also shows us how to make the perfect corn fritter. Who doesn’t need that information in their life?
SQUINTERS
★★★1/2
9pm, ABC
The fun and the insight in snippets of overheard conversation has long been a rich source of material for fiction – particularly for comedy – and in its second season Squinters is really hitting its straps. The writing and direction feel sharper and this instalment is full of laugh-out-louds: Sam Simmons’ Lukas has a nice moment, while Mandy McElhinney and Wayne Blair – Bridget and Gary – are one of the most inspired odd couples to have graced the small screen.
GOING PLACES WITH ERNIE DINGO
★★★1/2
7.30pm, SBS
A travelogue like no other, this gentle series hosted by Ernie Dingo takes us to often-familiar places and gives us a fresh perspective. You won’t find details of hotels or tourist attractions (or even local produce or markets). Instead he seeks out people who are caring for the land and carving out a different path, and encourages us to listen to what they have to say. Tonight, Dingo the desert man dons multiple layers of polar fleece to visit Jindabyne on the edge of the Snowy Mountains.
