LJP MP Ramchandra Paswan passes away

PATNA: The Lok Janshakti Party’s (LJP) Lok Sabha member from Samastipur constituency Ramchandra Paswan (57) died on Sunday following brief illness. He was the younger brother of the LJP chief and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
The party MP from Bihar’s Jamui constituency Chirag Paswan said his uncle breathed his last at 1.24 pm at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. He was admitted to the hospital last week after suffering a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife Sunaina Kumari, two sons and a daughter.
With his death, the LJP chief lost the troika of his three lawmaker brothers. Ram Vilas’ other brother Pashupati Kumar Paras was the Lok Sabha member from Bihar’s Hajipur seat.
Ramchandra, a four-time MP, was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999 from Bihar’s Rosera (SC) constituency. He was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 from Rosera seat.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha for third time in 2014 from Samastipur seat which he again retained in May 2019.
Mourning his death, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced that Ramchandra Paswan’s cremation and last rites would be performed with full state honours.
Expressing his grief, Nitish said Ramchandra was an able politician and a renowned social activist. Terming Ramchandra as a “soft mannered and sociable person who was very popular in his constituency”, Nitish said, his death is an irreparable loss not only to society but to state politics as well.
“The body Ramchandra Paswan ji will be kept at his residence at 18, Rajendra Prasad Road in Delhi from 5 pm onwards on Sunday for paying last respects. The body will, on Monday, be taken to Patna, where it will be kept at Lok Janshakti Party's office there from 11 am to 3 pm for paying the last respects. He will be cremated at 4 pm in Patna,” Chirag said in a tweet.

Condoling the death, PM Modi said on Twitter, “Shri Ram Chandra Paswan Ji worked tirelessly for the poor and downtrodden. At every forum, he spoke unequivocally for the rights of farmers and youngsters. His social service efforts were noteworthy. Pained by his demise. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
Former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi, Bihar minister Shyam Rajak and Bihar RJD president Ram Chandra Purbey also condoled the death of the Samastipur MP.
