Ludhiana: To harness rains for replenishing ground water, a schematic, specially designed for housing colonies, has been submitted by Dr S B Pandhi to the civic authorities.
Based on this schematic, about 8
rainwater harvesting systems will be installed at various spots in the city.
The rooftop rainwater from all the houses of a colony, which collects on the roads making puddles, will instead be stored in water channels made on the sides of the road. From far-off houses, it will be collected in chambers and will be moved to water channels through underground pipes.
Pandhi said, “From these channels, water will be collected in a filtration chamber. This water after going through three different layers of filtration, will be put in the deep recharge well of 10-feet diameter where the water will again pass through three layers before getting absorbed by the earth.”
