AMBALA: A 29-year-old Chandigarh woman was allegedly
gang-raped by six men at an unidentified location near Ambala City in
Haryana on June 29.
In her complaint, the woman has stated that she was returning to Chandigarh after appearing in a competitive examination in Kurukshetra University on June 29 when she was sexually assaulted.
The Ambala police on Saturday registered a case of gangrape against six identified accused at Ambala Women police station.
Women SHO inspector Sunita said the woman alleged that she was gang-raped in Ambala on June 29 and was terrified, but on Saturday, she appeared before the Ambala superintendent of police following which a case was registered.
The woman said that on June 29, she was returning to Chandigarh from Kurukshetra University after appearing in her clerk examination. On her way, she stopped at Shahbad for some personal work and then took an autorickshaw for Ambala. But the autorickshaw developed some glitch on Railway Bridge in Ambala. She was waiting for a taxi towards Chandigarh when a Swift Dzire car came there and she took the lift. There were three persons in the car and they gave her a cold drink and she started feeling dizziness. They stopped the car near Kingfisher Hotel and suddenly a Brezza car came from behind and then she lost her consciousness.”
Ambala SP Abhishek Jorwal said, “There is a suspicion that the woman may be knowing some accused.”
Women SHO Sunita said, “On the woman’s complaint, we have registered a case under sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence), 376-D (gang-rape), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We have identified two residents of Delhi and one of Barara.”
