Injustice was meted out to the Backward Classes in the newly passed Municipal Act by the government and the Congress party would allot 50 % tickets to BCs in these elections, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday after conclusion of six hour-long discussions on the forthcoming municipal elections with party senior leaders, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the party would take an affidavit from the contesting candidates that they would abide by the party decision and would not change loyalty.
He said that party would hold programmes on July 23rd about the injustice meted out to the BCs and how they were benefited during the Congress rule.
The TPCC is planning to conduct Congress Janda Panduga from July 27 to 30 across the State.
The next meeting of the party would be organised at Mahabubnagar on August 9.
Congress Legislature Party leader M. Bhatti Vikramarka came down heavily against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao alleging that the newly passed Municipal Act was dangerous and draconian.
“The Act stifles the voice of newly elected municipal chairmen and councillors. The elected representatives in the municipality can do nothing and their fate will be in the hands of Collector. The Act has passed through the Legislature only because the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is having enough numbers on its side. The spirit of democracy was killed,” he said while speaking to reporters after six hours of discussions on the municipal elections that were scheduled for next month.
“The Supreme Court judgement on reservation was wrongly interpreted. The Court suggested the government to conduct enumeration and submit the relevant data for reservations for BCs. Instead the government handed over the rights of elected representatives to Collector and police,” he commented.
Later in the evening, the Congress leaders visited the Manjeera dam which was dried up due to lack of rains.
However, absence of senior party leaders become a point of discussion among the party leaders. Lok Sabha members A. Revanth Reddy, Komatireddy Venakta Reddy, his brother and MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and former deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha had abstained from the meeting for various reasons, which became a point of discussion among the party workers.
