PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy
rain in ghat areas of Pune,
Kolhapur and Satara districts till June 22.
IMD expects light rainfall to continue in Pune on Sunday, and forecasts moderate rainfall on Monday.
The Met department has put districts like Palghar and Thane alert for “extremely heavy rain”, while heavy to very heavy
rain have been forecast in Mumbai, Raigad and Sindhudurg till July 23.
The IMD has advised travellers to exercise due caution while travelling in the
ghat sections, on highways and to tourist spots that experience heavy showers, especially those with waterfalls and rivers.
Parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada received heavy rain from Friday morning to Saturday morning. Satana Baglan in Nashik district recorded 100mm of rainfall, while Baramati and Malshiras (Solapur) received 70mm reach. Rameshwar Wadi in Sindhudurg recorded 80mm, Devgad 90mm and Malvan 100mm.
For eight hours from 8.30am on Saturday, Ahmednagar recorded 111mm of rainfall, making it one of the wettest spots in the state. Shivajinagar received just 1mm during this period, while Lohegaon had 2mm. Rainfall was moderate in Mahabaleshwar (16mm) while Mumbai received 10mm.
“The wind speed was low on Saturday, meaning clouds were in their formative stages. However, isolated heavy to very heavy rain forecast stays put for Konkan for Sunday, while heavy rain could be expected at isolated places in the ghat areas of Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts for the next few days,” Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather at IMD Pune, said.
