Ludhiana: At a time when the civic authorities are urging residents to prevent waterlogging in their surroundings, they seem to be unaware of water accumulation in the fountains of MC’s multi-level parking lot near its zone A office.
Expressing concern over the issue, Congress leader Parminder Mehta said carelessness of civic officials will prove hazardous for the health of the employees working at the office and daily visitors at the multi-level parking lot. How will the MC control mosquito breeding in the entire city when they are not able to curb it in their own premises, he asked.
Requesting anonymity, an MC official claimed that rainwater accumulation and stagnation happens every year at the same spots leading to mosquito breeding. But no attention is paid towards the cleaning of such spots by the authorities.
MC sanitation inspector Ashwani Sahota said, “It is the responsibility of the contractor who is managing the parking lot to clean the fountain. We will get it done on Monday.”
Meanwhile, civic officials claimed that they have kicked off fogging drive in the city for which they will be using 14 machines. MC medical officer Dr Vipul Malhotra said, “Initially, the fogging will take place only during the morning hours, but eventually, it will be done in the evenings too. Around 95 more hand-held fogging machines will be introduced in a few days.”
