Over 6,640 saplings were planted at various places across the district as part of greening activity under Water Management Movement (Jal Sakthi Abhiyan).

Virudhunagar Collector A. Sivagnanam planted saplings at the Teachers Colony at Pattampudur, Panchayat Union Primary School at Poochakkapatti and Primary Health Centre at Naranapuram and Taluk Office in Sivakasi.

The Collector said that one-third of the land should have forest for the benefit of the mankind. Trees would bring more rain, prevent landslip, soil erosion and controls carbon di-oxide in the atmosphere.

The Collector urged officials of various departments to plant saplings at government buildings, public spaces and roadsides.
