Pune: Maay Mulshi and Baladhyay Baramati girls defeated respective opponents to enter the final of the Pune League Kabaddi tournament 2019 in progress at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Mhalunge-Balewadi here on Saturday.
The tournament is being conducted by the Pune District Kabaddi Association and Nationalist Congress Party Baner-Balewadi-Pashan Ward No 9 as part of the birthday celebrations of Ajit Pawar, President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association.
In the first semifinal of the day, Maay Mulshi defeated Zunzhar Khed 38-35 in a close contest. Both the teams took to the mat with a win in mind as it was the place in the final which was at stake.
At the stroke of half time, the Maay Mulshi girls led with the score of 18-15. The last few minutes of the match witnessed some close action as the score read 35-35 with things looking good for both the teams. Siddhi Marathe from Mulshi struck just in time as she struck Khed’s Kajal Jadhav which went on to become the deciding moment of the match.
For Maay Mulshi, Manasi Rode scored 13 points while Samruddhi Kolekar chipped in with 10 points. Meanwhile Aishwarya Jhadbuke added six important points to the tally. For Zunzhar Khed, Trupti Landge scored 14 points while Pratiksha Nivgune scored 6 points followed by Shrutika Vyavahare who scored four points. Kajal Jadhav and Amruta Tumche scored three points each.
In another semifinal encounter, Baladhyay Baramati defeated Laibhaari Pimpri Chinchwad 28-24 which again was a close game. At half time, Baladhyay Baramati were trailing as the score read 10-17.
The second half witnessed a pumped up game from Baramati girls Aditi Jadhav and Pratiksha Karekar. Aditi scored 9 points while Pratiksha scored 8 points.
