Australian holistic fitness expert and new mother, Sarah Stevenson, has spoken out about the reality of trying to transform her body after giving birth.

The 26-year-old Sydneysider who blogs under the name Sarah's Day, who gave birth to her son Fox Ocean in March, recently shared a series of photos to Instagram revealing her body in three stages; from two days after she'd given birth to four months.

In a refreshingly candid post, she told her 930,000 followers her body transformation postpartum hadn't been 'linear' - even going as far as to say there were times she felt as if she were going backwards.

'I'm here again to speak my truth and share my honest journey. My postpartum fitness journey is not playing out in that linear fashion as I expected,' she said.

'We often see amazing before and after pictures and think "wow... their bodies must have slowly evolved, toned up and transformed consistently during that period."'

'Well, sissys (sic) I'm here again to speak my truth and share my honest journey.'

Sarah, who gave birth to her son four months ago, said she had been focusing her efforts on trying to regain her pre-pregnancy physique.

However, despite her best attempts to train consistently and eat well, her journey hadn't gone to plan.

Instead, she said she had been working toward finding a way to make peace with the fact she, or others, haven't failed if their health journey hadn't been perfect.

'You have not failed and your are not a failure. It's okay to fluctuate and go through waves of motivation, consistency and dedication.

Sarah also reminded her followers that it was possible to practice self-love even while undergoing a process of transformation - with a kinder attitude stopping her from feeling the need to push herself so hard.

'Every day I'm learning to love my new curvier body more and more,' she said.

'Sure I still have specific physique goals and love to transform my body but honestly gal... life's too short to pick apart our own bod (sic).

'I have legs that allow me to walk and run, arms that hold Fox, fingers that help me cook with ease, eyes to clearly see my beautiful family and ears to hear the sound of the ocean. In that respect... my body is killing it in that functionality department.'
