Thane: Duo held for robbing family at knifepoint

KALYAN: Three family members, including two women returning from prayers, were robbed by two masked persons, at knifepoint at 2.30pm. Kolsewadi police, after registering a case, nabbed the duo within three hours. Rajjaq Shaikh alias Babu and Aamir Shaikh, both residents of Netivali in Kalyan (E), have multiple criminal cases against them.

Police said Priyanka Rai, a resident of Metro Residency in Kalyan (E), along with her sister Ratna Mandal and brother-inlaw Deepak had gone to the dargah on Paripul hill. Police said when returning home, the two, wearing monkey caps, held knives at the throat of Priyanka and Ratna, robbed Rs10,000 and their three smartphones, worth around Rs50,000.
ACP Anil Powar said constables Mohan Shriwas and Pardesh found the accused at their residence within three hours. “Our team recovered the cash and phones,” said senior inspector Sahurao Salve. A court remanded them to police custody.
