KOCHI: Ernakulam Public Library, one of the oldest in the state, will witness a major facelift as part of its 150th anniversary year celebration to be held next year. Critic and noted writer MK Sanu and Hibi Eden, MP, on Saturday unveiled a model of the anniversary block to be constructed as part of the anniversary.
“Libraries are the epicentre of positive changes in society. They are sources of new thoughts to uplift the society,” said MK Sanu. A logo of the anniversary celebration was launched by John Fernandez, MLA. A committee was formed to coordinate the construction of the new block at the library.
The library will be the largest digital reference library in the state. Steps will be initiated to develop the library with global standards and turn it as a prime centre of cultural activities in Kochi. A campaign will be launched to increase the number of library members.
A reader’s forum will be formed by associating with educational institutes in Kochi. Literary festivals and cultural events will also be organised. Academic courses in Library Science and foreign languages will also be started at the library.
