Respect you more for standing up against atrocities on villagers, says Robert Vadra to Priyanka Gandhi

The standoff between Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and the Uttar Pradesh government ended on July 20, a day after she was detained by the Mirzapur administration when she insisted on travelling to the scene of a recent shootout in Sonbhadra.

Ms. Vadra spent July 19 night at the Chunar guest house, insisting she will not return to Delhi unless she meets the families of the victims.

On July 20, some of the villagers from Sonbhadra, where 10 people were gunned down over a land dispute, came to the guest house itself.

Later, Congress leader Ajay Rai said she was returning to Varanasi, where she had landed on July 19.

The Congress general secretary had earlier met some of those injured in July 17 clash at the BHU Trauma Centre in Varanasi.

But she was stopped while she and her supporters were travelling to Sonbhadra by road.

Respect you more: Robert Vadra

Meanwhile, Robert Vadra on Saturday lauded his wife and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for meeting family members of the Sonbhadra clash victims, saying he respects her even more for standing up against atrocities on the villagers.

“I have always respected your qualities of compassion, empathy & sincerity. Today, Priyanka, I respect you more for standing up against atrocities on villagers,” Robert Vadra tweeted.

“You were there to console them, when government refused to listen to wails of the families. Priyanka, do what is right for the nation,” he said.
