The Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has been ranked no. 1 agricultural university in south India, and is 6th best in India for the year 2018, according to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) ranking released by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
Mr. Tomar released the ranking on ICAR Foundation Day in Delhi celebrated on July 16.
A statement from PJTSAU said the ranking was based on 33 parameters pertaining to teaching, research and extension excellence. Competing with 74 agricultural universities, deemed universities and central agricultural universities. the PJTSAU showed a remarkable improvement over 12th rank achieved in 2016.
After the formation of Telangana, the then Acharya N.G. Ranga Agriculture University was bifurcated and PJTSAU was established. With three faculties – agriculture, agricultural engineering and technology and community science and more than 22 different departments and centres organised in nine schools of study, the university is home to more than 500 faculty members and 5,000 students.
