Truck driver dies as concrete gate collapses on cabin

Vadodara: A 40-year-old driver of a dumper truck died in a tragic accident at the gate of parade ground of Police Training School near Lalbaug on Saturday afternoon. The driver identified as Jitu Sodha died immediately when the cross slab of concrete gate of the parade ground weighing several tons fell on the truck’s cabin.
According to eye-witnesses, Sodha was exiting the parade ground when the carriage of the truck hit the slab and it collapsed. Fire department officials who removed Sodha’s body said that the hydraulic carriage of the truck had not settled properly and as there was an inclined slope at the gate, the carriage hit the slab. The truck’s cabin was crumpled as the slab fell on it and Sodha’s body was stuck in it.

Fire official from Dandiya Bazaar fire station were called in to remove the slab and bring out Sodha’s body. It was later taken to SSG Hospital to confirm his death and then for post-mortem. Sources said that Sodha and one more truck driver had gone to the parade ground to unload sand for the ongoing construction near the parade ground. The state government is undertaking construction of building for residence of cops over there.
SRP personnel who were present there said that when the slab collapsed it sounded like a blast due to which many persons gathered there.
