A 24-year-old tenant farmer committed suicide following “failure of the turmeric crop,” at Amudalalanka village under Challapalli Police Station limits in Krishna district.
The police said that Nagidi Srinu consumed pesticide on Thursday and died while undergoing treatment at the government hospital at Repalle in Guntur district on Friday.
Srinu, who got married early this year, was reportedly distressed after the crop on two acres of land failed.
Sub Inspector P. Nagaraju said a case had been registered and investigation was on. Post mortem was performed in the government hospital.
Bandar Divisional Revenue Officer J. Uday Bhaskar told The Hindu that an enquiry was ordered into the incident. The eligibility criteria to offer ex gratia as per the existing guidelines was being examined, he said.
