Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday in the wake of the red alert announced by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD has given a red alert, predicting that the coastal region may receive average rainfall of more than 200mm during the period from Saturday to Monday. The department has also predicted heavy
rain in the interior parts of the region. Accordingly, the District Disaster Management Authority of Dakshina Kannada has declared a holiday for schools in the district.
The DC said, “Parents should not allow children to go through low-lying areas, which get flooded due to rain. Children should also be prevented from going near rivers and the sea shore. Fishermen should not venture into the sea. Tourists and local residents too should not go near the sea shore. All district and taluk level government officials should be present in their respective jurisdictions to monitor the situation,” the DC said.
