Earlier, the holidaymakers could purchase and consumer drinks only at licensed venues that included hotels and restaurants.
Non-Muslim visitors over the age of 21 can buy alcohol from any Mercantile and Marketing International (MMI) or African and Eastern liquor store in the city.
A license will be required by the visitors to purchase alcohol from the shops but it is free of charge and can be obtained by applying on arrival in Dubai.
An official declaration stating that the tourist is not a UAE resident and will agree to abide by the UAE’s rules on alcohol purchase and consumption and the process needs the tourists to supply their passport.
The applicant’s passport copy and entry stamp will be taken by the shop. Further, they will be provided with guideline about how to be a responsible drinker in Dubai.
For 30 days the license will remain valid and can be renewed if tourists choose to extend their stay.
