Dharwad: The heavy
rain that lashed the twin cities of Hubballi-
Dharwad on Wednesday evening and Thursday resulted in waterflooding on roads and disrupted traffic on several important roads.
Water gushed into houses in low lying areas of Jannat Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Laxmisinganakere, Rajatgiri, Bhavikatti plot, Jaladarshini Nagar, Channabasaveswhwara Nagar and Shriram Nagar.
That the quality of work of drainage system after the much hyped ‘operation footpath’ and ‘road widening’ was of poor quality was evident when the newly constructed drains failed to prevent water from gushing on to the roads.
The road connecting Pune-Bangalore Highway to Kalghatagi Road near toll naka in Dharwad was overflowing making vehicular movement impossible for two hours.
Water from Saraswatpur flooded the low lying Jannat Nagar and within minutes the entire area where over three thousand families live in Janata houses was inundated.
Heavy rain continued to pound Dharwad and surrounding areas for the second consecutive day. It was a bright sunny morning but dark clouds hovered by afternoon and the city received a good spell of rain for more than two hours. It started to rain at 2pm and continued till 4:30pm.
School children and vehicle users had a horrid time to ply on inundated stretches. Traffic snarls were reported across the city.
