Nagpur: Siju Chandran alias Nadar alias Prince (38), a dreaded goon and an accused under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), fled from police custody on Saturday at Superspeciality hospital, GMCH. Siju was taken to the hospital on July 7 after he was diagnosed with tuberculosis.
Sources said on Saturday morning, Siju had gone to the wash from where he fled after dodging the cops.
There were four police personnel at the hospital to keep an eye on Sijo. As soon as they learnt that Sijo has gone missing, they informed Ajni police station and started searching for him, but he had eluded them. It is learnt that Siju is likely to be in Hyderabad and a team of police has gone to nab him.
Several offences registered against Siju, including firing on his girlfriend in 2012 on Amravati Road. He was later arrested by Hingna police. Siju was later booked under the stringent MCOCA and was sent to magisterial custody. The incident has raised several questions on handling of criminals by the police department.
