VILLUPURAM: Nine people, including seven
workers from Jharkhand, died in a head-on collision between an omnibus and a truck near Kallakurichi in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Thursday.

Kallakurichi-Salem Nation Highway was disrupted for more than three hours due to the accident.
Police said 14 workers, including 11 from Jharkhand, were travelling in the truck. They were travelling from Uthiramerur in Kancheepuram district to Kangeyam in Tirupur district for power transmission tower installation work.
The deceased include truck driver M Manikandan of Madurai and omnibus driver A Rajendran of Tirunelveli. Other deceased people were yet to be identified, police said.
There were 26 passengers in the omnibus that was going to Chennai from Coimbatore.
The accident happened around 2.45am on the Anna Nagar flyover on the Emaper bypass.
